"The Vice Minister of Education, Sr. Paulo Assis Belo, will present the director of Vila-Verde Primary School with one of the first sets of new learning materials that will be delivered to all primary schools in Timor Leste. The eight colorfully illustrated books reflect the life and culture of Timorese children and are fully bi-lingual in the two official languages of Timor-Leste.

The materials were produced through a partnership between the Ministry of Education and CARE International. 2000 boxed sets will be distributed to all primary schools in all thirteen districts. The materials were designed for Classes 3 and 4 and each set includes 20 copies each of the following titles: My Beautiful Country, Weather and the Environment, Animals, Plants, The Human Body, My Health, Time, and Careers. A comprehensive teacher’s manual is included to assist teachers in using the books in the classroom. The content of the books directly supports the National Primary curriculum, particularly the subject areas of Environmental Studies and Health.

Wednesday’s event will feature remarks from the Vice Minister and School Director as well as a musical presentation from the children of Vila-Verde Primary School."
